7 Items For Your Food Pantry From The West

7 Items For Your Food Pantry From The West
From creamy Galway humous to Connemara seaweed and Cacao made in Clare, you'll be dying to get stuck into the kitchen.

There's nothing quite like eating a meal when you know where every ingredient came from. We love to enjoy locally-sourced food from all over the West of Ireland – that's why we've rounded up seven gorgeous food items for your pantry from West-based businesses.

White Mausu Peanut Rayu

It wouldn’t be a west coast round-up without White Mausu. It might have been created by Katie Sanderson and Jason O’Connor in Dublin, but the duo are firmly West of Ireland food heroes now (as their recent divine Clifden pop-up can attest).

The brand has been lauded by the likes of Nigella Lawson, Darina Allen and Michael Roux Jr. While every sauce in their range is worth trying, our pantry staple has got to be their iconic Peanut Rayu. It’s a sweet, salty and incredibly more-ish crispy chilli oil with peanuts and sesame, and it can take just about any dish you’re cooking up to the next level.

DRIED Botanical Sea Salt

If you’re looking for a way to wow your dinner-party guests, Botanical Sea Salt is the way to go. The newest venture from Galway based business Air Plants Ireland, DRIED offers a gorgeous sea-salt and flower petals mix that can be used as a decoration or garnish.

We’re dreaming of a salt rim for mango margaritas, or a generous sprinkle over a dark chocolate dessert. You can find DRIED at the Galway market every weekend in St. Nicholas’ Church, or on their website.

The Galway Kitchen Classic Houmus

Is your kitchen truly complete without a tub of The Galway Kitchen’s Classic Houmous? A creamy, earthy blend of chickpeas and tahini with lemon and garlic, it’s perfect for dips and crudités.

We love to have it at the centre of a mezze platter, topped with pomegranate seeds, parsley, chopped pistachios and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Divine.

Hazel Mountain Chocolate Sea Swimmers Cacao

If you haven’t yet embraced the wellness trend that is cacao, this Sea Swimmers Cacao from Hazel Chocolate Mountain in Co.Clare is the best way to dive right in.

Created in collaboration with Michelle Riordan of the Cliffs of Moher retreat, it’s 100% ceremonial grade with Criollo cacao beans from Madagascar. A lovely pantry addition that will remind you to slow down, expect a deep, rich and slightly earthy flavour.

West of Ireland Honey

Perhaps one of the most important pantry items is a jar of honey. And when it comes to finding a good brand in the West of Ireland, we're spoiled for choice.

There's Leahy Beekeeping in Sliabh Aughty, Westport Honey Farm, and some brilliant independent beekeepers like Vickie and the Beehives, to name a few.

We recommend checking out your local market to spread the love (and the honey!)

Soop Mug

Every pantry needs something you can grab and go, and Galway brand Soop Mugs are the perfect lunch time or on-the-move snack to keep you satisfied when you're in a time crunch.

With some seriously tasty flavours like Chilli Butternut Squash and Tomato & Basil Pesto plus all-natural ingredients, it's a snack you'll feel good about. Find Soop at Coco Café (Eyre Square and Salthill) and Tasty Toasty in Galway.

Mungo Murphy's Seaweed

We're of the opinion that everyone needs a little slice of the Atlantic Ocean in their kitchen, and Mungo Murphy's offers just that.

Based in South Connemara and created by marine biologist Cindy O'Brien and daughter Sinead, they've got a gorgeous range of products for your pantry; from Carrageen Moss and Dried Kelp to funky seaweed seasonings.

Their motto? "Seaweed goes with everything!"
