Three Autumn Tipples to Toast The Season
Galway is the perfect setting for a cosy night out; warm lights illuminating Shop Street, the Corrib river humming alongside the city, crisp leaves strewn along the paths.
We’ve compiled a list of three gorgeous Galway drinks from local businesses that embody that cosy, autumnal city feel.
Sláinte!
The warming cider
This autumn, Galway Cider Co. will be unveiling a Hallowe’en- themed mulled cider infusion. Based on a traditional Irish family recipe, it comes pre-mixed but can be infused with fresh ingredients when heating.
“It can be served as a smooth 5 per cent ABV drink, or paired with a splash of local Micil Madeira Cask whiskey to take it to the next level,” says Galway Cider Co. owner Gary Vaughan.
The tequila with a twist
This September, step into Rúibín for a Notorious F.I.G, which chief mixologist Dennis O’Neill describes as a margarita with beetroot- infused tequila, house fig syrup, as well as orange and lime that blend deliciously together.
“Salt, sugar and dried orange skin powder are blended together to rim the glass, giving it an extra sweet, salty kick that will taste great on an autumn day,” he says.
The moreish orange wine
“The joy of orange wines is that they can combine the weight, texture and complexity of red wines and freshness and verve of whites,” explains Zsolt Lukács, sommelier and co-owner of Daróg Wine Bar.
“Many of these wines offer a more earthy tone in their flavour profile, especially those aged in a qvevri (terracotta vessel), which pairs greatly with autumnal flavours. One of our long-standing favourites is Iago Bitarishvili’s wine made from the Chinuri grape from Kartli in central east Georgia, using the qvevri like many before him for about 8,000 years. On the palette, you will find dried apricot, spices and honey with robust yet integrated tannins and a finish like sea breeze.”
