Spacious, Hybrid and Versatile: Stylist Joanna Cluskey on Finding the Dream Family Car

When it comes to finding your ideal car, there is nothing like a hands-on test drive.

Stylist Joanna Cluskey has been searching for the perfect vehicle for her, her husband and three children aged eight, nine and five, and spent a blustery Saturday test driving the Peugeot 5008 Allure Hybrid from Kenny Galway. “Our weekends are extremely busy with three different activities for the kids,” she says. “We need a car with lots of space, comfort and safety features.”

“The Peugeot 5008 was a dream to drive with an automatic transmission, it’s an ideal SUV for either driving around town or a fun-filled day of activities,” she enthuses. “As a fashion stylist I love the sleek, stylish design of the Peugeot range. We live in Galway City and do very little mileage so a petrol car is ideal for us.”

The comfort and space of the Peugeot 5008 Allure Hybrid won the whole family over. “The kids loved having a seven seater, as it gives us the option of picking up their friends for playdates. And there was lots of space in the back for their sports equipment!” 

Standout features include a user- friendly Panoramic i-Cockpit, with a wireless charger that charges your phone automatically. Joanna also rates the fact that the car is a hybrid. “The self-charging option means there’s no down-time.”

 Joanna also heartily recommends doing a test drive with the kids in tow. “We had the best day!” she says. “The handover was a breeze and Gavin from Kenny Galway showed me all the features of the car and took me for a quick spin before we went about our day. The showroom is so spacious and the kids received colouring books to keep them occupied.”

Top tips to be test drive savvy

Before the drive 

• Do your research, and give yourself enough time to fully understand the features of the car. 
• Have kids? Sports equipment? Bring them! This is especially true for buggies and strollers 

During the drive

• It may be tempting to go on a scenic adventure, but best to stick to a route you travel frequently 
• Test the tech, including navigation system, Bluetooth pairing and phone charging. 

After the drive

• If it wasn’t suitable, chat to your dealer as they’ll be able to suggest other vehicles based on your needs. 
• Ask about finance options, as there are often several different options to suit your budget
