Here's What Not to Miss in Galway in May
Many will agree that May marks the start of Galway's festival season, and this year's offering doesn't disappoint. From food festivals and live music to circus and sport – here's how to make the most of a very good month.
Take in a show

The Galway Theatre Festival is an annual celebration of the independent theatre, performance art, circus, and storytelling, bringing together both local and international independent and emerging artists in a series of venues across the city.
Running util the 9th May, it offers an accessible cultural experience with tickets typically ranging from €10 to €20, alongside some free events. With an infectious raw and fresh energy, it brings a fun new dimension to Galway's stellar theatre heritage.
Food, foraging and fun

For foodies, one of the highlights of the season is sure to be the month-long Blas na Bealtaine, a wonderful celebration of the incredible food destinations and producers in the city and beyond. For foraging, wild food and folklore events to an apéritif tour with Galway Food Tours, an evening dedicated to discovering the wines of central Europe at Daróg, or even a chance to try JP McMahon's take on Bolognese at Anair, the month offers a packed programme that will be a total treat for your tastebuds.
Festival fever

Taking over Oranmore this May Bank Holiday weekend, the Momentum Festival will feature well-known Irish acts like The Coronas, The Stunning and B*Witched over three atmospheric and fun-filled days.
Day tickets priced between €59.50 and €79.50.

Trad takes to the streets

The newly-launched Fleadh na Bealtaine celebrates Irish traditions and the arrival of summer through music, storytelling, markets, and community gatherings. Running from 30th April-4th May, the festival focuses on accessibility, with most events free and some ticketed experiences ranging from €10 to €25. Check out our full day-by-day guide here.
