Galway Now’s favourite Galway Wool Co-op have launched a new blanket, and this is a special one.

Dublin artist Ellie Dunne has joined forces with this platform for promoting native wool by lending her creative eye to the creation of the 40SHADES of Green blanket… 

It starts with Irish wool 

It may surprise you that most Irish woollen products don’t uses local wool, and that’s what Galway Wool Co-op are out to change. Brainchild of Galway farmer Blátnaid Gallagher, who’s protected breed of sheep supply this quality wool later spun by Donegal Yarns of Ardara Co. Donegal and weaved up the road by sixth generation weavers, Molloy & Sons. We can attest that the quality, warmth and softness is second to none, a far cry from the itch jumpers of your childhood.

All about Ellie

Rooted in a shared love of heritage and expression, this is a match made in heaven. At just 26, Ellie has an impressive portfolio of projects and exhibitions under her belt, including a solo show at the Dower House Gallery at Emo Court and former collaborations with Cushendale Woollen Mills and the prestigious Merrion Hotel in Dublin.

Her distinctive style shows a deep understanding of colour, naming artists such as Mark Rothko and Irish masters Richard Gorman and Sean Scully among her inspirations. 

A Unique Launch

A fresh and playful twist on a well-known saying, this is a truly vibrant blanket, €675, representative of our lush springtime landscape, available from Ellie’s website. The full green spectrum can be seen here from rich, earthy oakmoss to bright zingy lime. A break away from Ellie’s blanket-stitch edged creations, this heavy blanket measuring 140 x 180cm and features a mega fringe. The prefect picnic blanket, large enough to fit the whole clan for summer adventures for years to come.
