Taste of Brazil: Cookbook Author Giselle Makinde’s Top Five Spots to Try Brazilian Food in Galway
Here, Brazilian-born chef and food entrepreneur Giselle Makinde, whose new cookbook Samba is published later this month, shares her recommendations.

Chef Laura Rosso Restaurant
This is the closest you’ll get to a proper, comforting Brazilian meal. Feijoada - Brazil’s national dish of slow-cooked black beans and pork - is rich and made for sharing.. Add coxinha (stuffed dough) and pão de queijo (cheese bread), and you’re set. Homely, generous, and great value.

This feels like a little Brazilian corner shop with serious snack power. Think pastel, enroladinho, risoles and coxinha, plus brigadeiro and pudim. Grab a guaraná and you’re sorted. Casual, affordable and full of flavour.

Jungle Cafe
A brunch favourite with a Brazilian twist. Açaí bowls are fresh and energising, and pão de queijo appears now and then. Relaxed, bright and easy-going.

Alma brings a more refined take. Their monkfish dish, inspired by moqueca, is a standout, and the brigadeiros and condensed milk pudding finish things beautifully. Ideal for a sit-down meal with flair.

One of the best places for caipirinha (made with cachaça) and caipiroska (made with vodka) in Galway. A brilliant blend of classic Irish pub grub and brazilian drinks. Great place to watch the World Cup as they are open until late.
