The Lodge at Ashford Named Ireland’s Best Hotel 2025

Condé Nast Traveller has recently announced the results of its 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards, with The Lodge at Ashford Castle earning the title of Ireland’s best hotel.
Set on the historic Ashford Estate in Cong, Co. Mayo, the property has long been known for its blend of character, comfort and a striking lakeside setting overlooking Lough Corrib.
General Manager Peter Fergus says the recognition feels particularly meaningful because it comes directly from guests. “It is an honour to be named the top hotel in Ireland for any award, but what makes this one all the more cherished is that it was chosen by those who we deem most important – our guests,” he says, adding: “This award wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful staff who show up every day for our guests, their passion and commitment are visible for all to see, and this award is a testament to that.”

Each year, the Condé Nast Traveller awards showcase its readers’ favourite travel spots, from hotels to cruises, countries, cities and more.
Over 75,000 readers in the US completed a survey to share their opinions on their recent travel experiences, creating a definitive list of the most impressive destinations. With only twelve hotels receiving a spot on the rankings, this year Ashford Lodge rose to the top.
Overlooking the breathtaking Lough Corrib, The Lodge at Ashford has a rich history, dating back to 1865, when it was once owned by the Guinness family. The Lodge has since been restored, offering an elegant retreat with modern comforts while still retaining its timeless charm.
With the recent addition of Éalú, a brand new leisure complex, as well as a vast selection of estate activities like falconry, golfing and fishing, there are no shortage of ways to stay entertained.
