Galway Culture Night 2025: 10  Events You Won’t Want to Miss
With free access to over 50 art and culture events across the county, we’ve rounded up the highlights worth checking out.

Galway Culture Night takes place this Friday,19th September, celebrating the rich and vibrant culture our county has to offer.

The national event, now in its 20th year, grants free access to museums, theatres and public buildings from 5pm to midnight. There are also tours, exhibitions, performances and workshops across the city – all completely free of charge. With over 50 events to choose from across Galway, we have compiled a list of ten great things you won’t want to miss.

Mending HeArts art exhibition 

The Mending HeArts project in Ballinasloe provides workshops for cardiac patients and stroke survivors. These artworks will be presented and visitors will get a hands-on insight into what goes on in these workshops, taking a personal artwork to bring home. Try mixed media, printmaking and collage, with no experience or materials needed, just bring creativity and a willingness to learn.

Solidarity in Song

Solidarity in Song choir aims to unite people through music and celebrate the strong connection between Ireland and Palestine. Led by Palestinian and Irish musicians, the choir invites you to join in as they parade from Spanish Arch to Eyre Square 

Location: Beginning at Spanish arch and finishing in Eyre Square
Time: 6-7.30pm

Ros na Rún’s open set

An exclusive behind-the-scenes tour and Q&A session with the popular Irish language TV show offering a glimpse of the making of the series. Highlights include viewing sets and production spaces, seeing the green room and learning about the scripting, writing and production values that make the show such a hit. Galway Céilí Club: Pop-Up Céilí 

Hosted by Galway Céilí Club, pop up events have been organized across the city centre, featuring top trad musicians, including Enda Scahill and Ali Levack. Join the dancers and learn some steps as you celebrate Irish culture. Suitable for all ages and abilities, the craic agus ceoil is not to be missed.

Sculpture Culture

Be inspired to make recycling fun with this striking exhibition that highlights how everyday waste can be reimagined into something visually compelling and worth displaying. Original sculptures will be displayed, made from recycled materials, blending sustainability and art to create something inspiring. A must visit for those interested in art and sculpture.

A Night to Sea

Hosted by The Marine Institute, A Night to Sea event is set to be an uplifting evening, celebrating Ireland’s relationship with the sea. Visitors will enjoy a lively display of music, song, speech, crafts and storytelling, all connected to the sea and shaped by our maritime heritage.

Highlights include a performance by the Marine Singers Choir, a special multimedia project on basking shark fishing led by The Achill Sound and knot tying demonstrations by the Galway Bay sailing club.

Blue Theatre Teapot Company exhibition

Led by current students and graduates, Blue Theatre Teapot Company invites visitors to attend a special archive exhibition, celebrating 15 years of the performing arts school. Attendees will experience displays of costumes, puppet, and theatre crafts and screenings of theatre productions and short films.

The school was created in 2010 as there was no accredited performing arts training for people with intellectual disabilities in Ireland. This event gives the public a taste of the amazing productions made over the last 15 years, showcasing the talented creatives and performers that have blossomed through theatre.

30 Plays in 60 Minutes

For theatre fanatics, this fast-paced, audience led show is a must-see. The performance consists of 30 brand new plays, all shown in 60 minutes. With the audience in charge of choosing the order, watch as the performers race against the clock to showcase a range of funny, heartwarming and bizarre stories.

Play along silent cinema

Join Clifden Film Society for an interactive night of classic silent cinema. The audience is invited to ‘play along’ to some timeless silent films, with musical instruments, noisemakers and more provided. Decide what sounds Charlie Chaplin would make or what score should accompany Buster Keaton. For those who want to really get into character, costumes and props will be available.

Where Light Lingers

Facilitated by Galway City Council, Where the Light Lingers is an immersive light performance and sound experience at Kylemore Abbey created by Culture Works. The grounds of Kylemore Abbey will be transformed into a magical experience during this captivating nighttime event.

Visitors are invited to wander through the illuminated pathways surrounding the abbey and explore a series of experiences- ambient soundscapes, gentle illuminations and live performances.

Works will be inspired by the natural and cultural richness of the venue. Showcasing talented Irish Artists Jane Cassidy, Linda Schirmer, Alannah Robins, Aoife Dunne, Gillian O’Shea and Connemara’s choir Cantairí Chonamara, Where the Light Lingers is promised to be an unforgettable and culturally vibrant night for all.
