5 of Our Favourite Weekend Coffee Spots in Galway City
Looking for the perfect place to nab a tasty flattie or magical matcha? Galway's coffee culture has flourished in recent years and now boasts a rich and diverse scene that would satisfy the caffeine cravings of even the most discerning coffee drinkers.
Today, Galway's cafés emphasise artisanal brewing techniques, ethically sourced beans, and unique coffee experiences. Local roasters like Calendar Coffee have been instrumental in this shift, offering sustainably sourced, high-quality beans.
So whether you're looking for a quick but delicious grab-and-go or seeking to savour the coffee experience in a beautiful setting, there's a spot for you.
Coffeewerk + Press
Long-time favourite Coffeewerk + Press is all about great coffee and gorgeous design and really led the way in sparking Galway's artisan coffee culture.
Not only does it serve up beautiful blends created in collaboration with acclaimed Copenhagen roasters April, but the "Press" part of the name is a nod to Coffeewerk's dedication to supporting independent talent, evident in their gorgeous array of postcards, greeting cards and prints from over 30 artists, as well as their iconic take away cups, which feature captivating artwork designed by the artist Gala Tomasso.
No trip is complete without a visit to the beautiful design shop upstairs. Expertly curated by owner Daniel Ulrichs, it features slick coffee table tomes and beautifully crafted design finds.

Magpie Bakery
Believe the hype, the queues for Magpie Bakery are worth it. After honing his skills at Tivoli Road Bakery in Australia, head baker Cian Mooney joined forces with Sinead Meacle and Enda McEvoy, the innovative minds behind both Éan and the Michelin-starred Loam, to co-found the bakery.
Highlights include whipped Calendar Coffee and milk chocolate ganache infused caramel cruffins, roasted pecan and dulce de leche croissants and, of course, divine baguettes and loaves of sourdough.

Little Lane
Little Lane came to be when coffee lover Jennifer O’Sullivan wanted to create a space where Irish speciality coffee roasters could showcase their products. Located on Upper Abbeygate street, this spot houses excellent coffee from Bailies Coffee Roasters in Belfast.
If that’s not enough to satisfy your coffee needs they have guest spots two to three times a year to give Irish speciality coffee roasters a space to showcase their products. Right now, you can give Full Circle Roasters blend a try. They also have toasties and sweet treats, with vegan and gluten-free options available.

Plámás
Nestled in the vibrant Westend, Plámás radiates positive energy. Their locally sourced coffee, expertly crafted by skilled baristas, is a true delight. Plus, they don’t charge extra for alternative milk. Additionally, they offer sandwiches and sweet treats from fellow Westend establishment Hapi Bakery, sibling to the iconic Kai. The display area is dedicated to showcasing local craft, design and prints. Make sure to order in Irish to receive a discount!
