Art, Culture and Innovation: University of Galway's New Institute for Creativity
The new research institute will foster relationships between art and science, research, policy, and industry, bringing a variety of disciplines across the university together for collaborative research and solutions.

From leading experimental research in sustainable development and cultural diversity, to exploring the relationship between art and culture, and health and wellbeing, the new Institute is all about the future of innovation at the intersection of creativity and technology.
Florian Schneider, Director of the Institute of Creativity, told Galway Now that they're interested in exploring “new forms of cross-discipline research in different areas of knowledge.’’
“We want to not only support research in the field of Arts and Humanities, but also to figure out how creatives can collaborate with their colleagues in science, engineering and medicine. It's more about collaborative knowledge than individual excellence.”

He also emphasised the value of working together to tackle contemporary challenges, such as climate change and the housing crisis.
“We need a new creative intelligence – you can't solve the problems of the future with the research of the past. So we're encouraging creative confidence, and new solutions and approaches that might be 'off the beaten track'.
“And we don't see creativity as being exclusive [to any specific discipline],” he added. “There is creativity across all areas of learning and research, and we want to explore how we can strengthen our artistic intelligence together.”
Florian added that the West of Ireland is a particularly exciting place for this burgeoning research to take place, as it is home to "so many lively creative industries”.
The Institute for Creativity will also be home to University of Galway's popular 'Arts in Action' programme, which invites students, staff, and visitors from outside the university to engage with a broad and varied programme of artistic events.
