I'm a singer-songwriter who has done her fair share of busking on the streets of Galway – here are the spots I rate and recommend, whether you're looking to perform, or just want to enjoy a night of great music.
If you love a good vibey sit-down performance

What: Galway Bay Jazz band
Where: Monroes Tavern

These relaxed afternoons are ideal for unwinding after a long week. With a welcoming crowd and an informal feel, expect smooth standards, local talent and maybe even an occasional guest performance. A must for Jazz lovers or a perfect way to be introduced.

A staple of Galway’s traditional music scene, The Crane's trad sessions welcome players of all ages and levels to join in. Known for their intimate atmosphere, these sessions are as unpredictable as they are impressive. Plenty of now-famous faces have popped up there, including up and coming Irish singer Aaron Rowe, known for his song Hey Ma, and touring arenas with names like Lewis Capaldi, once played before his breakthrough. It's proof you never know who might walk in, or what might happen on the night. Bring yourself or an instrument and join the circle.

Located in the Soul Garden at Massimos Bar, this is a great starting point for anyone looking to get comfortable on stage. With a supportive atmosphere, Massimos welcomes musicians of all levels or people who just fancy a relaxed sit-down pint. Expect a mix of originals, covers and spontaneous collaborations throughout the night. Sign ups happen on the night so all you need to bring is yourself and an instrument.

Located on the top floor of the renowned Roisin Dubh is a weekly Sunday open mic, ideal for beginners looking to try performing live.
